SOng Of The Day - Dream "Walking On The Moon"

California Legalizing Marijuana

The story SF Weekly broke on Friday is true: Assemblyman Tom Ammiano will announce legislation on Monday to legalize marijuana and earn perhaps $1 billion annually by taxing it.

Quintin Mecke, Ammiano's press secretary, confirmed to SF Weekly that the assemblyman's 10 a.m. Monday press conference regarding "new legislation related to the state's fiscal crisis" will broach the subject of reaping untold -- and much-needed -- wealth from the state's No. 1 cash crop.

Mecke said Ammiano's proposed bill "would remove all penalties in California law on cultivation, transportation, sale, purchase, possession, or use of marijuana, natural THC, or paraphernalia for persons over the age of 21."

The bill would additionally prohibit state and local law officials from enforcing federal marijuana laws. As for Step Two -- profit -- Ammiano's bill calls for "establishing a fee on the sale of marijuana at a rate of $50 per ounce." Mecke said that would bring in roughly $1 billion for the state, according to estimates made by marijuana advocacy organizations.

Great interpretation of technology evolution here...

Kate Winslet finally wins her oscar

So deserving of an oscar, even if there were better performances this year.

However her hair was shocking, sometimes understated is the best way to go, rather than 2nd world war chic.

Beyonce always wanting to get attention

Furious at not being nominated for best song with "At Last" at this years Oscars, Beyonce ensured that she would still be a main part of tonights show and performed the musical medley alongside Hugh Jackman, Amanda and Dominic from Mamma Mia and Zac and Vanessa from High School Musical 3, though you barely would have known the latter two couples were even on stage....

Here is the performance below

Brad and Angie at Oscars

They look so happy and content together, and it is such a shame that neither of them got the recognition for their roles tonight, though Kate definitely deserved to win an oscar after so many nominations, Angies performance was so compelling.

ALso Brad is one of the most underrated artists of our times, due to his good looks, it sometimes hinders peoples judgement of what a great actor he actually is...

Dark Knight Global Phenomenon - Breaks $1 billion dollar mark

"The Dark Knight" has become the fourth film to take in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office.
Warner Bros. made the announcement Friday afternoon, saying that the combined domestic and international gross had totaled $1,001,082,160 to date -- about $533 million domestically and $567 million overseas.

"Knight" had been about $4 million short of the 10-figure mark when Warner Bros. re-released it into Imax screens on Jan. 23, the day after its eight Oscar nominations were announced. Grosses from Ecuador also helped nudge the Batpic over the mark, a spokeswoman said.

Only "Titanic," with $1.8 billion, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" have topped the billion-dollar worldwide mark previously.

"Knight" also is the second-highest domestic grosser of all time, trailing only "Titanic."

Warner also noted that it's the largest 2-D digitally re-mastered Imax release in the domestic market with $49.6 million and worldwide with $64.9 million.

North Dakota Passes Abortion Ban

North Dakota's House of Representatives has passed a bill effectively outlawing abortion.

The House voted 51-41 this afternoon to declare that a fertilized egg has all the rights of any person.

That means a fetus could not be legally aborted without the procedure being considered murder.

The bill no goes to the North Dakota Senate for passing, but it is unsure whether or not it will pass.

Though I understand the point made, is it fair to make someone raped or someone in grave danger by continuing pregnancy, go through with the pregnancy???

Jonas Brother's being funny

They must be sad that Felicia (aka Pineapple head) has gone back to work with Britney, she is the best PA an artist could ask for.

Chris Brown's statement

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person. Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds."

However what I am waiting to come out is that Chris and Rihanna had split before the crash and also that Rihanna had caused Chris a lot of physical damage too, that's not to say I condone him hitting her, but as said there is a lot more than meets the eye.

Britney plays stepford wife in If You Seek Amy video

AMAZING RIGHT!!!!!

Suspect charged for arson fires in Australia.

Authorities charged a man Friday with lighting one of the wildfires that killed a total of more than 180 people in Australia, and whisked him into protective custody to guard him from public fury.

Police said the suspect was charged with one count of arson causing death and intentionally lighting a wildfire near the town of Churchill that killed at least 21 people. It was one of hundreds of fires that raged through southeastern Victoria state Feb. 7, leaving 7,000 people homeless and razing entire towns.

The suspect also was charged with possessing child pornography.

The disaster's official death toll is 181, but efforts to find and identify victims were continuing and officials expected the final tally to exceed 200. More than 1,800 homes and 1,500 square miles (3,900 square kilometers) of forests and farms were burned.

If found guilty, the man faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison for the deadly arson charge, and a maximum of 15 years on the second arson charge.

Music copyright for sound recordings to get extended

Today will go down as a historic day for the music industry after the European Parliament’s influential legal affairs committee recommended extending copyright term for recordings to 95 years.

The move could signal the end of a seven year fight by the UK music industry to see performers treated on an equal footing with writers.

There is still some way to go with the Council of Ministers needing to vote on the issue, but most insiders expect this to go in their favour with the UK recently coming out in favour of extending term.

In a statement UK Music said, “In recommending that the current term of copyright protection for sound recordings is extended to 95 years, the Committee has recognised the value of music and the importance of the work of artists, musicians and entrepreneurs, both now and in the future, and that parity with other creators is fair and just."

For those who are unaware, the current length of copyright on sound recordings is 50 years, whereby once it passes 50 years, the recording goes into the public domain and people can use the record for free without prior clearance.

Madonna tops 2008 moneymakers list

If anyone had any doubt that touring is where the money is in the music business, a quick look at the top Moneymakers for 2008 should hammer the point home.

Regardless of genre, retail sales or radio play, each of the 20 acts on Billboard's Moneymakers list toured in 2008. (Taylor Swift mostly opened for Brad Paisley but doesn't get credit for that revenue). For almost all of them, touring generated the most revenue. And in a year when recorded-music sales declined yet again, many earned more at the box office than ever before.

1. Madonna: $242,176,466
2. Bon Jovi: $157,177,766
3. Bruce Springsteen: $156,327,964
4. The Police: $109,976,894
5. Celine Dion: $99,171,237
6. Kenny Chesney: $90,823,990
7. Neil Diamond: $82,174,000
8. Rascall Flatts: $63,522,160
9. Jonas Brothers: $62,638,814
10. Coldplay: $62,175,555
11. The Eagles: $61,132,213
12. Lil Wayne: $57,441,334
13. AC/DC: $56,505,296
14. Michael Buble: $50,257,364
15. Miley Cyrus: $48,920,806
16. Taylor Swift: $45,588,730
17. Journey: $44,787,328
18. Billy Joel: $44,581,010
19. Mary J. Blige: $43,472,850
20. Kanye West: $42,552,402

The top five Moneymakers are also the five acts that earned the most on tour, and in the same order, according to Billboard Boxscore. Eight of the top 10 Moneymakers are in the Boxscore top 10.

Even more remarkably, the top Moneymaker -- Madonna -- only had the 50th-best-selling album in the country. She ranked 14th on the list of digital track sellers and didn't place on the ringmasters chart. Her place on Moneymakers, like her $242,176,466 income, comes from the highest-earning tour that took place in 2008.

In fact, those questioning whether Madonna rates a reported 10-year, $120 million 360 deal with Live Nation might reconsider. Madonna's Sticky & Sweet tour took in $229,886,340 at the box office, although the extravagant production might have cost up to 40% of that gross, according to industry estimates. The margin is much better on tour merchandise, where Madonna probably raked in more than $18 million in sales, not counting her licensing business.

Rihanna to be away from public for a month

Rihanna will be out of the public eye for at least a month whilst her bruises heal and her jaw re-mends itself.

Apparently RIhanna's jaw is broken and it has had to be wired shut with the process taken 3-6 weeks for the jaw to heal fully.

That alongside the contusions on the head and the brusing around the eye, nose and lip means that the beating was extremely severe and it is clear that Chris Brown's team need to do immediate damage control and stick the kid in rehab immediately and anger management classes as well as going to abuse shelters and realizing the seriousness of his actions.

Reports are also coming out that this isn't the first time he has seriously injured Rihanna, back at the AMA's apparently her eye patch she wore whilst performing was not a costume piece but a necessity after a scratched retina.

Everyone wants answers but it will be at least a few more days/weeks before anything officially comes out.

X Factor Alexandra also lands US record label deal

ALEXANDRA BURKE has triumphed again by bagging a £3million US record deal.

Top label Epic swooped after her Christmas single Hallelujah smashed sales records.

When she finalised the contract this week, Londoner Alex told me: “I’d love to crack the US. After seeing COLDPLAY take away the awards at the Grammys I was so inspired.”

She has plenty of reason to feel optimistic about her future.

Her Stateside launch is being masterminded by the crack star-making team behind BEYONCE and RIHANNA’s successes.

And her contract with Epic is for up to an impressive five albums. Alex is flying over to the States next month to meet with X Factor boss SIMON COWELL, who will be involved in her bid to make it big.

He is determined to help her follow in 2006 winner LEONA LEWIS’ footsteps to top charts across the globe.

Beckham offer from AC Milan to LA Galaxy

AC MILAN will make a £10.5million bid for David Beckham today.

The Italian club was warned by the MLS to settle the England star’s future by the end of this week.

Milan have already had an offer of around £5m rejected by LA Galaxy.

But with Becks, 33, quickly establishing himself as an integral part of the team, Milan are willing to up their bid. They face a crucial derby match against Jose Mourinho’s Inter this weekend and want Beckham’s future resolved beforehand.

The player himself has made no secret of his desire to stay and praised the club for improving his fitness and game.

He said: “Milan has done me the world of good. I am much fitter than a few months ago.

“In a month and a half my fitness has grown by 100 per cent. I want to stay and the negotiations are ongoing so I’m hoping for a quick outcome.”

Michael Jackson has servere case of MRSA

MICHAEL JACKSON is suffering from an acute MRSA-type skin infection which threatens to EAT his flesh.
The singer has been receiving antibiotics via a drip in a bid to beat the superbug, which sources say has spread throughout his body.

Jackson has always insisted he suffers from a skin condition called vitiligo, a chronic skin disease which causes loss of pigment.

Despite the dramatic changes to his appearance, he admits only to having two minor cosmetic procedures. He has admitted to minor work on his nose to help him breathe.

Last summer, the star was seen being pushed in a wheelchair as he approached his 50th birthday. The gaunt singer was clad in pyjamas and slippers.

Cholesteral lowering pills to be given out to 1 in 4 Brits over 40

Millions of healthy people with no obvious sign of illness could be put on cholesterol-lowering drugs, Britain’s heart “tsar” has signalled, as new research showed that they cut the chance of heart attack by almost a half.

Around one in four adults aged over 40 is to be prescribed statins on the NHS under current plans. But a wide-scale study, published yesterday, has found that the drugs are even more effective than previously thought in people who appear healthy.

There have been calls for everyone over the age of 50 to be given the drugs — which consist of a daily pill costing as little as 34p a month — to lower the risk of a heart attack, but this is controversial as many see it as needlessly “medicalising” healthy people.

There are few serious side-effects with statins, but patients do complain of muscle aches and fatigue.

RECESSION/DEPRESSION "It's worse than the 1930's"

BRITAIN faces an economic crisis WORSE than the Great Depression of the 1930s, Schools Secretary Ed Balls has warned.
And he admitted it could last for FIFTEEN years — and change the “political landscape”.

Mr Balls — long regarded as Gordon Brown’s closest ally — said we have been hit by “the most serious global recession for over 100 year. n a speech to Labour activists, Mr Balls declared: “I think that this is a financial crisis more extreme and more serious than that of the 1930s.

It looks like a world war is gonna be the only way out of this depression, as the jobs created by deploying people to war and then the subsequent jobs created to rebuild countries/cities destroyed by war is in mine and my nan's opinion the only way we will get out of this depression.

However who will start the world war will be left unknown, North Korea and their nuclear weapons, or Russia and their continued problems with Georgia boiling over into something bigger. The only problem we would have is that technology is so much greater than the last world war, that cities/countries can now be completely wiped out by nuclear bombs and it really does lead to worrying times.

Chris Brown and RIhanna miss Grammy's after domestic violence case.

According to reports, Chris Brown is under investigation for alleged domestic violence felony battery and will not be present at the 51st Grammy Awards. It was also announced that Brown's girlfriend, pop/R&B diva Rihanna will also skip the award show.

Early Sunday morning , around 12:30AM, the crooner and an identified woman were in a vehicle when they became involved in an argument that reportedly resulted in an altercation. According to the LAPD, the altercation spilled out into the street when Brown and the woman exited the car.

Police have not identified the victim as Rihanna. "The identity of the victim will not be released," said Officer April Harding. "Any victim who's involved in a domestic violence incident is entitled to confidentiality." The victim suffered visible injuries. Brown was named as the attacker, but the singer allegedly fled the scene before the police arrived.

Both of them where scheduled to perform at the awards, I am glad I got to see their performances at rehearsals, but a shame that they both couldn't make it on the night.

First woman to swim across the Atlantic Ocean

Jennifer Figge pressed her toes into the Caribbean sand, exhilarated and exhausted as she touched land this week for the first time in almost a month.

Reaching a beach in Trinidad, she became the first woman on record to swim across the Atlantic Ocean — a dream she'd had since the early 1960s, when a stormy trans-Atlantic flight got her thinking she could don a life vest and swim the rest of the way if needed.

The 56-year-old left the Cape Verde Islands off Africa's western coast on Jan. 12, battling waves of up to 30 feet (9 meters) and strong winds arriving in Trinidad on Feb. 5.

Her journey comes a decade after French swimmer Benoit Lecomte made the first known solo trans-Atlantic swim, covering nearly 4,000 miles (6,400 kilometers) from Massachusetts to France in 73 days. No woman on record has made the crossing.

Figge woke most days around 7 a.m., eating pasta and baked potatoes while she and the crew assessed the weather. Her longest stint in the water was about eight hours, and her shortest was 21 minutes. Crew members would throw bottles of energy drinks as she swam; if the seas were too rough, divers would deliver them in person. At night she ate meat, fish and peanut butter, replenishing the estimated 8,000 calories she burned a day.

Classic example why I hate using Verizon as a phone company.

This poor guy had a similar experience to myself and it is just so annoying dealing with uneducated people.

Also what really narks me off is that here in the US, you have to pay to receive texts and calls from people within the US on the networks (Verizon, AT&T etc), yet every other country I have been to/lived in, you don't have to if you live in that country and use a phone network in that country (O2 in England, ZDNet in Australia etc)

Time the phone networks in America get taken down and stop conning American's out of money

He's Just Not That Into You

The new film "He's Just Not That Into You" has topped the US box office this weekend and is expected to make $28 million dollars at the box office. Having read the book it definitely looks like a good film to watch.

Also above is a cute pic of three of the stars in Marie Claire magazine.
