Yet another live venue shuts in London

The Soho Revue Bar is reportedly set to close, joining a long list of live venues in central London shutting their doors.

Calls to the company went unanswered at time of publication, but promoters have been told that the venue closed on Thursday 29th January 2009.

Speaking to musicOMH, the venue's booking manager Walt Etz says that a buyer for the venue, which entered administration in March 2008, could not be found.

However Alex Martin, of Curious Generation which promotes live music at the venue, says that he expects a new owner will be found. “I am fully confident that the Revue Bar will re-open,” he says. “Although not in the very, very short future.”

Curious Generation is rearranging the events it had planned at the Soho Revue Bar to other central London venues of a similar size and is coordinating with other promoters looking to so the same thing.

In recent months The Astoria, The End and the Metro Club have all closed their doors.

“It is unfortunate about The Metro and The Astoria but that was Crossrail related,” Martin adds. “But there is always going to be a market for central London venues and especially of that size.”
