Sky retain rights to broadcast Premier League matches till 2013
Sky's 17-year dominance of live Premier League football is to continue as the satellite broadcasters retained the rights to at least 92 games after the first round of bidding for the 2010-2013 rights deal closed on Tuesday.
The broadcasters are understood to have been awarded four of the six packages of 23 matches after a day of deliberation by Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore and his advisers in London. The total rights fee paid is expected to exceed £1 billion, with sources suggesting Sky may have matched the £1.31bn they paid for their current three-year deal.
The four packages are understood to be the ones Sky currently screen, featuring the most attractive Sunday 1.30pm and 4pm kick-offs, as well as giving the broadcasters the first pick from each round of Premier League fixtures.
There is just far too much money involved in Football, damn my passion being in music which is constantly dwindling in funds, whilst football in going up by the day.
