Zavvi closing more stores
Zavvi has announced the immediate closure of a further 17 UK stores, including shops in Aberdeen, Coventry, Derby and York.
The joint administrators Ernst & Young will continue to trade the remaining 31 stores throughout the UK.
The closure of the 17 stores will lead to the redundancy of 242 employees.
Joint administrator Tom Jack says, “We will continue to trade the remaining 31 UK stores and remain hopeful that a sale of some or all of these stores can be achieved. We are in detailed discussions with two interested parties and it is our intention to continue to trade all remaining UK stores with a view to their sale as a going concern”.
The retailer, which went into administration just before Christmas, has already closed 22 stores on January 8, 18 on January 14 and 15 on January 29. It also sold off 14 stores to HMV in mid January.
Zavvi took over from Virgin Megastore in 2007 to help rebrand and keep the store fresh and invigorating, but now with Zavvi closing, the only real music store chain left is HMV....Even more worrying times for the music industry!!!!
